Hinoki,?a species of cypress native to central Japan in East Asia, has been a precious wood since ancient times in Japan for building shrines. Because of its water-repellent surface,?the Japanese “Hinoki” cypress is a typical material?but more luxurious for making wooden tools in families.
The scoops are made by traditional handcrafting techniques. Opening the package, you can feel the unique scent of the hinoki, a great combination of rice and other food.?
Every smaller scoop has one tiny?hole at the end of the handle.?It was used to stabilise during the crafting process.
As the whole piece is handmade in Japan, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
